Telenor has said that they are ready to launch 3G services in the country with the help of their 8,000 cellular network towers.                                                                                                                       Announced at a Press conference by Telenor’s Chief of Marketing Irfan Wahab and Corporate Affairs Chief of Telenor Aslam Hayat, the company was ready for roll out of next generation of mobile communications from 2013 when it upgraded its infrastructure network. It was told that this acquiring of 3G licenses made Telenor Pakistan fourth of Telenor Group’s six Asian operations with 3G.
Officials from Telenor boasted of successful leap into the 3G with 10 year of operations of the company in Pakistani Telecom market. Telenor expects that there will be increase in internet using user base among their currently held 35 million user base with introduction of 3G.
Regarding increased employment opportunities, Irfan Wahab was of the view that new jobs will definitely be created which will span around various sectors including telecom, services, advertising, outsourcing and others.
Telenor submitted bid for 10 MHz spectrum but was able to win only 5MHz spectrum and that too on base price of $147.5 million. Once it submits its bidding price or at latest 50% of its bid price within 30 days of auction, it will formally get license to operate 3G in the country. Their license will be valid for 15 years. They are already offering Free 3G services on trial basis in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad & Rawalpindi. Internet services of Telenor on 2G grabbed new heights when they launched free Facebook and Free Whatsapp service to their customers. It is ironic that telenor falsely  bragged about being 4G LTE company even before the auction but they were not even able to apply to bid for the 4G license.
